From face-to-face to remote evaluation of teacher-education candidates during the COVID-19 pandemic

Although teacher’s personality is an essential component of successful classroom learning, most teacher education programs accept students solely on the basis scholastic ability scores such as school grades, national test (SAT, GRE) or undergraduate college transcripts. To ensure suitability to teaching, a personality-evaluation system was developed in Israel for candidates. This evaluation includes non-cognitive measures, group dynamic exercises, simulations, teaching exercise, situational judgement tests, tests and inter-personal interview, all performed face-to-face (FTF) at testing center. The outbreak COVID-19 2020 brought about lockdowns social distancing, precluding administration this FTF system. Therefore, development team adapted online remote testing, using Zoom technology. present study examined effect transition quality selection looking suitability-to-teaching subjective views applicants evaluators. A comparison with 2019 revealed that were slightly lower than scores, more centralized. While candidates found provided fewer opportunities express themselves, both evaluators satisfied convenience day. Discussion chapter summarizes unique affordances constraints evaluations presents suggestions changes which might be made when moving assessment could take advantage new environment.
